Letter: Mirrors and insurance should be legal requirement for cyclists

I have noticed when I am driving along the roads that bicycles (push bikes) do not have any mirrors fitted so they cannot see what’s behind them at any time and they swerve round traffic and objects on the road without looking behind.

All other vehicles on the road, including motor cycles, mobility scooters and mobile grass cutters, have all got mirrors fitted so they can see behind them.

In my opinion, it should be made legal for all bicycles to have mirrors fitted to see behind so they are more aware of other vehicles on the road.

I own a bicycle but I will not take it out on the road until it is fitted with mirrors. I also think that cyclists should have to pay insurance because if they cause an accident, how can people make a claim for damages caused to themselves or their vehicles?
