Letter: Mirfield Armed Forces Day event couldn’t have been better

I would like to express my thanks to Mirfield British Legion for organising the Armed Forces Day at the Old Colonial on Saturday.

It was a pleasure to be in attendance and a lot of hard work must have been put in by Tim Wood and Barry Fretwell from the Legion in organising such a large event. I couldn’t count the number of people there but it was a good turn out. One thing that struck me

most was the age groups there, the many local organisations, dignitaries and members of the public.

I cannot fail to mention the Air cadets from 868 squadron, they were all dressed immaculately in their smart uniforms, did a wonderful job marching, holding the standards and after the event did a wonderful job with their marching and drumming, they really are a credit to their parents, their Squadron Commander and Mirfield!

The day was quite emotional I think for all in attendance especially when Simon Reevell and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant presented medals to past military personal for their services to the country. It couldn’t have been a better day, even the sun came out exactly at 12pm as the service started.
