Letter: Dedicated committee made festival a success

The first North Kirklees Literary Festival took place on the weekend of September 20-22.

As Chair of the organising committee I should like to thank all those who worked so hard to make it a success. First of all thanks must go to Imelda Marsden, who first had the idea of holding such a festival and who did so much to get the ball rolling.

Secondly, the enthusiastic and dedicated committee members who gave so much time and expertise to the project; special thanks to Hilary Wainwright, Trees Fewster and Steph Harding; and not forgetting those who worked so hard to make Val Wiseman‘s inspirational concert such an enjoyable event.

Thirdly, to Eric Brown, manager of Red House and Oakwell Hall, with his Red House staff - for so often managing to hide his despair whenever we came up with another ‘wizard wheeze’!

Fourthly, of course, to all our wonderful speakers for so many interesting talks.

Lastly but definitely not least, our sponsors and Kirklees Council for their assistance and use of Red House.

The event has been so well received that we will be looking to hold it again next year in a new and expanded format.
