Opinion: The Mayor of Mirfield, Coun Vivien Lees-Hamilton

The Town Council is gearing up for Christmas. Yes I know that we are in the middle of a heatwave, but time and tide wait for no man.

The work must start now to make sure that we have a date booked for the Christmas lights switch on, entertainers must be invited and, of course, we need a local superstar to actually switch the lights on.

The members of Mirfield Town Council met the chief executive of Kirklees Council on Tuesday July 8.

A walk around the town took place with many members raising issues that affect our town.

One very hot topic was the lack of access at the railway station and the lack of parking provision for the station. More on this subject to follow when we have an update from the chief executive.

On a less festive note, the planning application for the unknown supermarket at the Veolia site has been now been submitted and the plans are live on the Kirklees website.

Love it or hate it, if you wish to object against these plans now is the time to let the planning department at Kirklees know how you feel about this planning application.

Mirfield Town Council will be scrutinising the projected traffic flows for this planning application at the next council meeting.
