Opinion: Richard Hartley from MyMirfield

Firstly we would like to thank the Mirfield Reporter for inviting MyMirfield to write a monthly column – and we wish to use this opportunity to show what a great town Mirfield is to live, work and shop.

MyMirfield was founded by Martin Ibberson in 2010 and ever since has been celebrating success, supporting business, promoting events, informing on latest news, and most importantly, providing a platform for local residents to have their say about all day to day activities – from helping people with lost cats, to discussions on planning applications, and many topics in between.

It includes a very active Facebook page, a loyalty card scheme, a website – and now the MyMirfield online shop – a new platform for local retailers to get online together and for local residents to shop from their favourite high street shops and have it delivered when convenient to them.

This week we would like to showcase the great variety of events that happen across Mirfield throughout the year – from last month’s Armed Forces Day to November’s well-supported Remembrance Day Parade, plus the Christmas Light Switch on and Christmas Eve Carols Round The Tree.

And summer is no exception with the upcoming community events: Brass in the Park on Sunday July 20; Mirfield Show on Sunday August 17 with an array of classes, competitions and attractions that has been a great success since its re-introduction 20 years ago; and the new Tack Up and Go Show organised by the newly formed Mirfield Horse and Pony Society pencilled in for Sunday September 14.

Finally we hope to see many people turn out for this weekend’s Round Table Second Annual Beer Festival fundraiser at Mirfield Cricket Club where MyMirfield has sponsored a barrel with all proceeds going to local good causes. Cheers !!!
