On the Road to fame

Ashton Roberts, of Nursery Wood Road, Hanging Heaton, went to the Manchester set in June to be an extra in the BBC1 drama series.

The 15-year-old landed the part after the programme contacted Stage Coach theatre school, Dewsbury, looking for talented youngsters to appear in classroom scenes.

With the episode due to air in the autumn, Ashton hopes her appearance will lead to bigger and better things.

She said: “Being a singer or an actor is a bit of a dream.

“I have always said that I wanted to be on Waterloo Road and now I have. I watch it all the time.”

The teenager hopes to follow her idols Katie Price and Christina Aguilera into the spotlight and performs regularly with her Stage Coach classmates, with a show at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London planned for later this year.

“My family are really excited,” she said.

“My mum texted everyone to tell them!”
