Cross Hall Development Limited, based in Leeds, have been granted planning permission by Kirklees Council for a development at the old St Patrick’s Church social club in Kirkgate, Birstall.

Supporting information supplied with the application states: “One of the earliest references to the site is in the Bishop’s visitation to Batley in 1870 where documents held in the archive state ‘That this land is to be held in trust for the premises built there to be used as the site of a church, chapel or place of religious worship, a school and dwelling house’.”

Designed by a Mr Simpson, from Bradford, Father Russell decided St Patrick’s should be built and was established properly in 1905 after numbers grew.
