Offices cause a bucket load of problems for Mirfield Town Council

A MEETING will be called to discuss the future of Mirfield’s town council offices.

On Tuesday, town councillors heard how the building in Huddersfield Road had problems including a leaking roof and a faulty fire alarm.

Chairing the meeting, Coun David Pinder said: “We have had considerable problems with the building and fire alarms in the last couple of weeks.

“We have had instances where the police have come up because the fire alarms have gone off.”

He said officers had thought they had found a solution to the problem, but that did not work.

“We have also sprung a leak and there is a large plastic bucket in the administrator’s office by the window,” Coun Pinder said.

At the end of the meeting, councillors agreed Coun Martyn Bolt’s proposal that the council organise a meeting with Kirklees Council, which owns the building, to give them an update on what Kirklees considers the future of the building to be.

Coun Pinder said: “One gets the impression that they are not unhappy that the building is falling apart.”
