North Kirklees successes in Yorkshire In Bloom

The village near Mirfield scooped a gold award and won the village category.

Judges were wowed by the floral arrangements around Croft House, the main community hub, and in other areas of the village.

They also praised the team for using a golden theme, which reflected the community winning the top prize last year.

Red House Museum in Gomersal bagged the gold rose award in the public, private and charitable establishments category in its first year of entering.

Judges praised the restoration of the 1830’s garden, which they said had been made to look as authentic as possible.

Oakwell Hall and Country Park in Birstall also received a silver-gilt rose award.

Birstall’s displays bagged the silver-gilt award in the urban community category, while St Saviour’s Church, in Brookroyd Lane, scooped the place of worship award.

The competition makes up the regional element of the Britain in Bloom Campaign organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, which encourages communities to work together to improve their local environment.
