No time like the present for a run!

While you’re opening your presents tomorrow morning, spare a thought for Alison Wood.

For before the Liversedge woman can think about opening her gifts or getting stuck into peeling sprouts, she must complete a two mile run in the freezing cold!

Alison has challenged herself to run two miles a day for 125 days to raise money for Cancer Research in memory of her dad, Peter Wood.

And that means she has to complete a run every day, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Alison, of Thornleigh Drive, said: “I thought it was a good idea so I started on December 1.

“I wasn’t into running; two miles isn’t much but it’s more of a challenge and commitment doing it every day.”

It’s an even tougher challenge for Alison as in recent years she’s had two operations on her left foot and has been left with a plate in it.

However she doesn’t let this slow her down and is an enthusiastic member of Batley Amateur Thespian Society.

She straps on her running shoes at 6.30am and completes her two miles before heading to work in Dewsbury.

She said: “I’ve had lots of Christmas parties to go to so it’s hard running after that. I run outside so it’s the biggest challenge. I intend to build up to five or 10 miles a day. If I run more than 250 miles in 125 days then it’s a bonus.

“On Christmas Day my plan is to get up first thing and get it out of the way. Luckily my mum is cooking Christmas dinner! On New Year’s Day I’m still getting up to run even though I will have been celebrating. No matter what happens, I’ll run every single day!”
