Newsnight host Jeremy Paxman tells viewers “Don’t despair – you could be living in Dewsbury”

DEWSBURY is to be named as one of the worst towns in the country for empty shops, according to BBC2’s Newsnight.

Last night’s edition of the current affairs programme named Dewsbury and five others as the towns with some of the highest vacancy rates.

Host Jeremy Paxman told viewers: “If you like most of us look at your high street and see boarded up shops, charity ventures and the same dreary brands as everywhere else, don’t despair – you could be living in Dewsbury.”

He went on to say that the full figures would be released by the Local Data Company tomorrow (Thursday).
