The village’s councillors Robert Light, Andrew Palfreeman and Liz Smaje have fought to home a new Post Office since 2013.

Coun Light (Con) said:“We’ve been working with the Post Office since the other one closed to ensure that they don’t forget us and walk away, and that they explore all the different avenues.

“We’ve gone without for two years nearly. It closed with a great deal of mystique and surprise.

“We are very pleased that after quite a discussion, this shop decided to persue their interest.”

It is 800 metres from the old village centre site. But Coun Light thinks thinks the new office will also cater for those living in East Bierley.

“This new style of Post Office is going to be open much longer hours. We hope that people will find it convenient and use it,” he said.
