A letter to the parents of children at Chickenley Community School said that Bronagh King would not be in school from this week.

The school was deemed inadequate by Ofsted at the start of the year, with a further report in September stating the school was still not making enough progress towards leaving special measures.

The letter, signed by chairwoman of governors Joanne Bartholomew, said: “This is not an acceptable situation as the governors expect to see more progress being made.”

James Wilson, vice-principal at Moor End Academy in Huddersfield, is already in place as acting headteacher.

Jane Acklam, the principal of Moor End – recognised as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted – is also supporting the school.

The letter sent out to parents said: “I can assure you that our new, interim arrangements are designed to bring a rapid improvement in the care and education that your child receives.”

In September’s Ofsted report, inspector Jonathan Brown called for urgent action at Chickenley after he found that unruly pupils were having to be physically restrained repeatedly by staff.

The September report noted that staff were leaving the school and not being replaced.

Standards have slipped at the school, which inspectors found to be ‘good’ in 2009 and ‘satisfactory’ in October 2011.
