New drop-in centre for the community

People with learning difficulties will now be able to find support closer to home, thanks to council funding.

A new centre has been launched in Church Street, Dewsbury, following funding from Kirklees Council’s Community Partnerships.

The Shop, launched by Mencap in Kirklees, is a drop-in centre offering advice to people with learning disabilities and their carers.

Chief executive Jill Robson said: “We want to raise the profile about what the charity offers in Dewsbury.”

Thornhill Community Academy assistant headteacher Matthew Burton officially opened the centre on Wednesday.
