She has served as chairwoman of Crowlees Parents and Staff Association previously, and supports the school’s Crowlees Hopper walking bus.

Coun Harding (Ind) said: “I’m not a particularly political person and it’s not really my comfort zone, but I’m aware that organisations are having to do more with less and the vacancy had been there for a long time.

“In my line of work and running a business, I’ve got some skills that I think can contribute.

“It’s about lending a hand really.”

Four councillors voted in favour of the appointment, two voted against and four abstained.

The town council will meet next on July 23, 7.30pm.
