Dewsbury Evangelical Church (DEC) is celebrating the official opening of its new building on Central Street with a series of open days.

The church first viewed the building in June last year and was up and running at the beginning of this month.

It was previously based at Crackenedge Lane and the previous owner of the new site, tooling suppliers Cutwel Ltd, have helped ensure a smooth transition between the two venues.

The building was funded by member donations and loans from organisations such as the Grace Baptist Trust Corporation. It has a large worship hall, a crèche, a lounge and a lower hall for games.

Daniel Grimwade, co-pastor at DEC said: “We are thrilled by the location, amount of space and facilities available here – it’s great because we’ve got so many ways to engage more with the surrounding community.

“We are hoping to open a CAP (Christians Against Poverty) jobs club, recommended by job centres, that will help those searching for work. In addition, we’d like to run a CAP money course. which will hopefully help people manage their money better.”

Open days take place on Tuesday April 1, from 10am to 8pm, and Saturday April 5, from 10am to 4pm.
