Muslims celebrate prophet’s birth

More than 200 Sufi Muslims from mosques in Ravensthorpe turned out for the annual Eid-Milad Peace Procession.

The procession was organised by the Aslamiya Jamia Mosque and Community Centre to coincide with prophet Mohammad’s birthday celebrations taking place across the globe, which began at the start of the new year.

Local mosque leaders, elderly Muslim veterans from the Second World War, as well as parents and children joined in the procession waving green flags, which symbolise love for nature and the environment.

Another procession is planned for Sunday, starting at 3pm in Warren Street, Savile Town and making its way up to the High Street mosque in Westtown for 4pm. Around 800 people are expected to attend.
