Musicians unite for charity night

Steve, of Liversedge, held the band night at The Swan Pub in memory of his granddaughter Isabella Dean, who was born with a complex heart condition.

Isabella died just before Christmas, aged just 12 months and four days, prompting Steve to organise the evening that saw dozens of professional musicians heed his call for help.

Local musicians, rock fans and members of T-Rex were all in attendance for the sold-out show, compered by Mike Smith, of Mike’s Carpets fame.

The event raised over £3,000 to be split between the Ronald McDonald House and Heartline charities.

“It’s been very emotional and has taken a lot of time to organise, but people were just ridiculously generous,” Steve said. “People were putting £20 notes in the collection buckets as if it was nothing at all. I was amazed really and very grateful.”

Among the acts on the bill were Spirit of Smokie, the Britrocks and Steve’s Goldtops – comprising local musicians with links to Steve.

The event could be repeated in the near future.

He added: “I want to thank all the bands who took part. It meant a lot to us all. I would like to especially thank The Music Room, Healds Hall, PJ’s Gym and Mike’s Carpet for giving prizes for the charity auction. It just goes to show what we can do locally and what massive support there is for good causes.”
