Murder inquiry launched after elderly woman robbed in Gomersal

DETECTIVES have launched a murder investigation after an 89-year-old woman died from head injuries sustained during a robbery in Gomersal.

Police were called to Quarry Road near its junction with Oxford Road, shortly before 2pm yeaterday (Friday) to reports that the woman had been robbed by a man who ran off with her handbag.

She sustained serious head injuries in the incident and was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, but died later the same day.

A man and a woman, aged 26 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

Police closed off the junction while forensic teams scoured the scene and officers were still at the site today.
