MP expenses revealed

Figures from the body responsible for parliamentary expenses show Mr Reevell claimed £32,090.65,which included accommodation and train travel.

The provisional figures for 2012/13 have been made available on the website of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), which governs MPs expenses.

The organisation is yet to publish final figures for the year.

Of the expenses Mr Reevell claimed, £16,159.53 for costs related to accommodation and £2,669.90 was spent on train travel.

Costs of £238 were in relation to first class train tickets.

Mr Reevell said that in the wake of the Parliamentary expenses scandal in 2009, there had been a major shake-up of the rules.

And he insisted it was important to be honest with the public about how MPs’ expenses are spent.

He said: “Some MPs lost the confidence of the public so it is important to be transparent with our expenses.

“So many people were just ripping off the system and some have gone to jailed because of it and rightly so.

“People can look what it costs to rent my office in Dewsbury and then look at their own office rates and make a comparison.

“From there they can decide whether they feel they are getting value for money, but it is important we are open about our expenses.”
