More than half tested at roadshow could have diabetes
More than 13,000 people in North Kirklees have already been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, which causes high blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Those who develop Type 2 diabetes are affected by it for life, although it can be controlled and managed through healthy lifestyle choices.
Linda Wood, regional manager for Diabetes UK in the Northern and Yorkshire region, said: “It’s obviously very concerning that so many people in Dewsbury have been identified as moderate or high risk of Type 2 diabetes. But our roadshow has given them a chance to get help from their doctor and hopefully to take a serious look at their health.”
