It was confirmed that five nominations had now been put forward for Mirfield Ambassadors.

The role will involve people who have done outstanding work in their community or profession chosen to represent Mirfield to the wider public.

Each nominee will be contacted over the next couple of weeks and their identities revealed should they accept the offer.

Mayor of Mirfield Vivien Lees-Hamilton urged parents to stop flushing disposable nappies down the public toilets in Station Road.

She said: “We need members of the public to help us to help themselves.

“They really do need to stop flushing disposable nappies down the loo and get rid of them properly.”

She also said the council was still looking to partner up with art groups to put together a toilet graffiti project. It is hoped that this will help counteract some of the expletives that have been left on the toilet walls.

It was also confirmed that a new application had been submitted to Kirklees Council’s planning department by Bellway for the Balderstone Hall site off Hepworth Lane.

However, the council has yet to verify the application, so it is not currently able to be viewed by the public.
