Mirfield suffers another pipe burst

The pipe burst at around 11.45pm on Kitson Hill Road.

Yorkshire Water said that customers in the area may be experiencing no water or low pressure.

Thousands of residents were left without water yesterday after a pipe burst on Savile Court.

A team of engineers has been working through the night to re-route water supplies and repair the pipe as quickly as possible.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “We are sorry if any customers have experienced any disruption or inconvenience as a result of a significant burst on one of our water pipes under Kitson Hill Road.

“In our efforts to keep customers supplied there is a risk that some customers may experience temporary discolouration to their supplies. This is due to the disturbance of historic mains sediments (e.g.rust) and although unsightly, it is not harmful to health.”

Yorkshire Water has also advised motorists to avoid the area whilst they work on the repair.

This has affected the 253 bus which is unable to serve Nab Lane, Stocksbank Road and Kitson Hill.

Reader Michelle Howarth heard a loud bang at around 11.45pm.

She said: “At first thought there had been a serious crash but on investigating found that it was a water pipe that had burst. If it had happened during the day then this could have been fatal.”
