Mirfield siblings raid piggy banks for Sam’s Wish to Walk

Two children are raiding their piggy banks to help fund a life-changing operation for a boy with cerebral palsy.

Katie Ashford, eight, and her brother Harry, six, read about the Sam’s Wish to Walk appeal in last week’s Reporter.

It was set up by the family of Hopton Primary School pupil Sam Bottomley, whose condition stops him from being able to stand without support.

If they can raise £35,000, six-year-old Sam could have an operation that would help his muscles move more freely and eventually allow him to walk independently.

Katie said: “We’re saving up for Sam so that he can play at the playgym.”

Mum Jennifer Ashford, of Brown Street, Mirfield, said: “I am very proud that Katie and Harry asked if they could give their own money to Sam’s appeal. It would be lovely if others are inspired to give a little too as it all counts.

“It was completely their own idea and so far they have more than £10 to donate. They are going to continue to save their pennies to help Sam for as long as needed.”
