Mirfield Moor homes plan on display today

Taylor Wimpy plans to build 164 new houses on the site known as Mirfield 25, which lies off Leeds Road.

It comes just a few months after campaign group Save Mirfield reformed to fight two other controversial greenfield developments in Mirfield.

More than 130 homes are planned for Balderstone Hall Fields off Hepworth Lane, while another 37 are planned for off Lady Heton Drive.

Mirfield mayor Coun Vivien Lees-Hamilton said: “With the Mirfield 25 and Bellway Homes plans together, we are looking at more than 300 extra houses in one fell swoop.

“There are still more places within Mirfield that have been allocated for development, so there could be even more than this.”

Mirfield 25 landowners Park Crescent Limited were given more time to submit a formal planning application last month. The site had previously been considered as the location for a retirement village and a new base for Huddersfield firm David Brown.

An exhibition for the public to take a closer look at the plans is being at Christ the King Church in Stocks Bank Road today (Monday), 2pm-7pm.

Save Mirfield will meet at the nearby Airedale Heifer from 5.30pm.

Mike Dove, of commercial agents Dove Haigh Phillips, said: “We feel these plans are deliverable and will provide good quality new homes.

“This will provide a catalyst to enable the whole site with residential and commercial sectors of the site to be developed and provide a boost to the local economy.”
