Mirfield house seized by Kirklees in council tax row

KIRKLEES Council has taken possession of a £100,000 house over an unpaid bill of £5,000.

Nick Newby had his house taken from him because he refuses to pay a rate of council tax he thinks is unjust.

This week he unsuccessfully applied to get the house back so that he could sell it.

He said: “This has been going on for years. The council has spent thousands of pounds of taxpayers money pursuing this.”
