Mirfield employer's family fun day

One of the district's largest employers is hosting a family fun day in Battyeford this month.

Mirfield-based John Cotton Group will mark the company’s centenary with the Bank Holiday event, which is open to the whole community.

The bedding specialists have organised activities and entertainment for all ages on Saturday May 28 from 1pm at the Battyeford playing fields on Huddersfield Road.

There will be face painting, space hopper races, fancy dress, disco domes, bouncy castles, a penalty shoot-out, stalls, slides, a licensed bar, barbecue and ice cream stand.

The raffle includes great prizes such as Sheffield United match tickets, a children’s mountain bike and food and drink vouchers.

The event is part of the business’s commitment to raise £100,000 for charity, and proceeds will be split between Kirkwood Hospice, Macmillan, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Forget Me Not and the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.

The company’s factory shop will return to trade for one day only, with large discounts available on bedding.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be celebrating our 100 years in business and would like to welcome everyone throughout Kirklees to join us. It simply wouldn’t have been possible to reach this landmark year without the support of the local community, so this fun day is for them and to give back to the place we are proud to call home,” said John Cotton MBE.

Entry is free.
