Mirfield cyclist killed in A1 Mother’s Day crash

A CYCLIST from Mirfield has been killed in an accident involving a lorry on the A1.

Police have this morning named Andrew Ridsdale, from Mirfield, as the man killed in the accident on Mother’s Day.

Mr Ridsdale, 43, died after a heavy goods vehicle hit his bicycle just before 8.55am on Sunday March 18. He had been taking part in an organised time trial event.

The accident happened on the A1 southbound carriageway close to the end of the A634 Spital Road slip road, about one mile south of Blyth services.

The incident is being investigated by Nottinghamshire’s Crash Investigation Unit. No arrests have been made.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or was driving along that section of the A1 between 8.50am and 9am on Sunday.

They would particularly like to hear from a woman who stopped immediately after the collision and told people at Flo’s Café, in a nearby lay-by, that she had seen the crash.
