Mirfield and Dewsbury riders take on Huddersfield Town charity challenge

Members of the Highe family are teaming up to tackle a 280-mile ride in May to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Accountant Chris Highe from Ravensthorpe and his twin Dave, 31; their sister Rachael Robertson, 35, of Hopton and uncle Derek Highe, 54, of Mirfield, are all taking part in Huddersfield Town’s Pedal4Pounds fundraiser in May.

The family foursome will cycle the 280 miles between Yeovil and Huddersfield to support the YAA and Huddersfield Town Academy. The ride will take three and a half days and the family is already in training on new bikes bought specially for the occasion.

None of them are particularly keen cyclists.

Another cycling feat is also coming up in aid of the air ambulance, the annual Brian Robinson Cycle Challenge on April 29 which covers a 75-mile circuit around Pennine roads. Organised by Mirfield councillor Martyn Bolt, the popular event is named after local man Mr Robinson who was the first British rider to finish the gruelling Tour de France in the 1950s.
