The memorial, in the grounds of the Old Colonial in Dunbottle Lane, was rededicated on Sunday with the laying of wreaths.

Speeches were also given by the Mirfield Royal British Legion (RBL) chaplain Ian Grainger, town councillor David Pinder and Mirfield RBL branch president Barry Fretwell.

Old Colonial landlord Tim Wood said: “The rededication was superb – David Pinder’s speech summed up the act of remembrance very well.

“It is a very sombre affair, but all the veterans had drinks after the service and enjoyed themselves, which I’m sure is what their fallen comrades would have wanted.”

A remembrance service will take place in Mirfield on Sunday November 10 with wreaths laid at the memorial as part of the Civic Remembrance Parade.
