Megan’s taking it all in her stride for a good cause

But fundraising supergirl Megan Rodd didn’t just walk – she ran most of the way from her Dewsbury home all the way to Leeds.

Cash raised from her sponsored trek to the Leeds Rhinos’ stadium in Headingley brings the total she has raised for the Leeds Rugby Foundation to just shy of £3,000.

Megan, seven, has been raising money since she was touched by the work of the Leeds Rugby Foundation, which is run by the Rhinos, her favourite team. She started selling buns but in August she climbed 4,000ft to the top of Ben Nevis, in Scotland, with mascot Ronnie the Rhino.

Megan, of Cliffe Street, has even donated her tooth fairy money to good causes.

Mum Michelle said she could barely keep up with Megan, who wanted to make it to the stadium in time for the Rhinos’ first game of the season. “She was running most of the way,” Michelle, 34, said. “It was nothing to her.

The St Ignatious School pupil raised nearly £400 through sponsorship and carrying a bucket on her journey, which took her less than three-and-a-half hours. “A lot of adults would really struggle to do that,” added Michelle. “She’s just so determined to get that bucket filled. “She just can’t stop. My legs were aching the next day but she was up doing star jumps at 6am.”
