Meeting secured for sports centre

A meeting about the future of sports facilities that could be lost due to the closure of Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre is planned for after the election.
Because of planned redevelopment of the neighbouring school, concerns have been raised about what will happen to current activities at the Turnsteads Avenue facility.

Dan Messenger, who organises the Spen Valley Flyers roller hockey club, said: “We desperately need help from the council and school to ensure that we have a local venue, can continue our great work in the community and that the club survives”.

Kirklees Council leader David Sheard has agreed to a meeting with Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Batley and Spen Jo Cox after May 7.
