Mark’s film career lands him new role

AFTER working on blockbuster movies at Pinewood Studios, specialist plasterer Mark French is now creating classic hits for Ornate Interiors.

Mark, of Hightown Road in Liversedge, has helped to create the backdrops for a number of major films including Clash of the Titans.

He said: “I worked at Pinewood Studios for a number of years and gained a great deal of experience and job satisfaction helping to create the scenes and settings for films such as Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp and Snow White and the Huntsman – for which I helped to build a full size castle.”

Mark said filming was often taking place while he was working on the sets and he sometimes got a chance to see the actors preparing for scenes. He also saw comedian Keith Lemon and the cast of TV’s Dragon’s Den.

“At any one time there can be up to 100 plasterers working on a set so it’s a major operation,” says Mark, 45.

“From trees to columns to tiling and brickwork, it’s all about using the space and resources to create an illusion of reality, and plaster is one of the finest mediums to work with in this respect. Anything is possible!

“It was truly bespoke work that transformed empty spaces and very much reflects the direction in which Ornate Interiors are heading.”

Ornate Interiors, based in Pudsey, recruited Mark after hearing of his extensive experience in the film industry. They gave him the chance to ‘audition’ for the job by carrying out some work at an auction house in London.

“It’s very interesting and rewarding work,” said Mark, who has been a plasterer for 28 years.

“Lately I have been working on a shop in Regent Street in London which is going to be the flagship store for Burberry.”

Ornate Interiors’ MD Ronnie Clifford said: “Mark is a key appointment for us. His knowledge and experience can help to transform a space into virtually anything and we are seeing a lot more demand from architects and interior designers for this kind of truly bespoke plastering.”
