Keep Our NHS Public protestors have been walking from Jarrow to London to fight against what the group sees as privatisation of NHS services.

The march passed through Dewsbury two weeks ago to protest the downgrading of Dewsbury’s accident and emergency department.

Christine Hyde, who joined the march in Dewsbury, said the reception from the public had been positive.

“Around 40 of us have continued to march down to London,” she said.

People have been cheering for us and giving us encouragement. We have all gone through a box of plasters for our feet but it is important we get our message across.”

The campaigners were due to arrive in London yesterday.
