Made up of marathon veterans and newbies, the group are raising cash for two worthwhile causes.

Among them is self-confessed curry fiend Imran Patel, who will be running his first marathon in a matter of weeks. Imran was edging close to 18 stone early last year before he decided it was time to bypass the baltis.

Now feeling happier, fitter and four stone lighter, he is ready to take on the challenge in April.

Hamid Patel, who has run four marathons in the past, said the men, aged between 26 and 50, had been pounding the streets of Dewsbury and Mirfield in all weathers over the past few months.

“The day of the marathon is the easy part,” he added. “It’s the training which separates the men from the boys.

“To psyche yourself up to wake up early, a typical training run taking place at 6am and to step out of the door in cold and harsh winter conditions requires real motivation and dedication.”

First time marathon runner Elyas Patel said: “Every penny we can raise will count and change the lives of so many for the better.”
