Jamie Presland will compete in the 26 mile race around York in October to raise cash for the Reporter Series Fund.

“I used to do a bit of cross country running and said I’d like to do a marathon one day,” he said. “I put my name forward and didn’t think anything would come of it!

“I’ve started going for some runs now. I can’t think about running 26 miles – that seems a long way off – but it’s going alright.”

Jamie, who joined the team in January, is also taking part in the Jane Tomlinson 10k in Leeds this summer.

The 23-year-old signed up for the race alongside Reporter Series colleagues Georgina Morris and Russ Cowling.

Jamie said: “I’ll train up for the 10k then I’ll kick on with training up for the full marathon. I’m putting together a training plan and trying to build up a mile or so every week, but it’s early days still now.”

Sponsorship given to the runners for both races will be added to the pot of money to be handed out by the Reporter Series Fund at the end of 2013.

The good causes set to benefit from all the fundraising for our charity appeal are Kirkwood Hospice, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, One Community and Asthma UK.

To make a donation, send a cheque payable to Reporter Series Fund to 17 Wellington Street, Dewsbury, WF13 1HQ.
