Man rescued from beck in Batley

Firefighters had to rescue a man from a beck in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

Crews from Dewsbury were called to the scene just off the A652 Bradford Road, Batley, at around 12.50am.

Watch Commander Richard Carr, of Dewsbury Fire Station, said: “We were called by the police to reports a man had fallen off a wall and into a beck around the back of Zucchini’s restaurant.

“We used a short extension ladder and we also had to cut some of the undergrowth so that we could pull him out.

“He had been in the water for quite a while but said nobody heard his cries for help.”

Mr Carr said the man was not injured in the incident.
