Man hit with hammer by mobile phone thieves

Robbers pushed a man to the floor and demanded his mobile phone before hitting him with a hammer in a street robbery.

The incident happened at 8.15pm yesterday (Wednesday June 15) as the victim was approached from behind while walking along the Spen Valley Greenway in Dewsbury.

One of the men demanded his mobile phone before both pushed the victim to the floor. They kicked him before one of them then hit him with a hammer in the chin and chest.

They then took the mobile phone before the victim ran away.

He required hospital treatment as a result of the incident.

Officers want to speak to men in connection with the incident.

The first is described as aged 20-22, 5ft 5ins tall, of a small build and white. He was wearing a red rain coat with a hood that covered his head. He spoke with a local accent.

The second is also described as aged 20-22 and 5ft 5ins tall. He was of a slim build and wearing a black hooded rain coat and dark blue jeans.
