Man dies after being injured in Dewsbury house explosion as investigation launched

A man has died after being injured in a large explosion at a house in Dewsbury.

The property on Crescent Walk, Ravensthorpe, exploded at about 11.30am on Tuesday and was almost completely destroyed as it caught fire.

A 55-year-old man who was in the house suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. He was later determined to be in a life threatening condition.

Tragically, the man died in the early hours of this morning.

His family have been made aware.

Another man also needed hospital treatment after being struck by debris, but his injuries are not life threatening.

Emergency services, the Health and Safety Executive and Northern Gas have launched an investigation into the 'very serious' incident.

Detective Inspector James Bellhouse of Kirklees CID, said: “Detectives are working with partner agencies including the Health and Safety Executive, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Northern Gas to investigate this very serious incident.

“Tragically, a man who was seriously injured in the fire has died in hospital this morning. His relatives have been made aware and are being supported by officers.

Work has been ongoing on site by partners to make the property and surrounding houses safe as we continue to investigate the cause of this explosion.

“While those enquiries will take time we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances at this stage.

"Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact Kirklees CID on 101 referencing police log 401 of March 31 2020.
