A MAN has been in court charged with murder after a street attack on Sunday evening.
Nisar Shah, of Victoria Road, Thornhill Lees, is charged with the murder of Jack Carter.
Mr Carter, of Bretton Street, was in a critical condition with serious head injuries at Dewsbury and District Hospital, with his family by his side, but died on Wednesday night.
His girlfriend of five years, Melanie Boocock, said: “I’ll just remember him as Jack. You can’t describe Jack.”
Miss Boocock was with Mr Carter when he was attacked in Victoria Road as they were leaving a friend’s house on Sunday.
The couple had only just moved back in together four weeks ago after a brief separation.
Miss Boocock said: “We had fallen out for a while, and everyone said I was stupid to go back with him, but I loved him.”
She said she was glad to hear that a man had been charged with Mr Carter’s murder.
Shah, 39, appeared at Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court yesterday. He did not enter a plea and the case has been sent to Leeds Crown Court.
Another man remains in police custody following the incident and two other men arrested have been released without charge.
Shah will appear at Leeds Crown Court today or on Monday.
The attack happened at around 6.45pm on Sunday and was the second attack on the street within three days.
