More cash, credit cards and the laptop were taken from bedrooms in the monastery on Sunday evening.

Fr George Guiver said: “It makes us a bit fed up.

“It’s always an unpleasant experience for the brethren to have a thief in their home, but we also feel sorry for someone making a mess of their lives like that.”

A police spokesman said a 35-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the second theft and released on bail.

The man is also a suspect in connection with the first theft.
