Man admits causing death of Batley driver

A MAN has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a young driver from Batley in Scotland.

Brian Shingleston, 58, from Stranraer was to stand trial this week at the country’s Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court, but pleaded guilty on Monday to causing the death of 22-year-old Mark Hoare by driving without due care and attention.

The accident happened while Shingleston was negotiating a left-hand bend on the A75 near Springholm on 24 January last year.

He admitted causing his vehicle to cross the centre line of the road onto the oncoming lane and collide with a car being driven by Mr Hoare, who was so seriously injured that he died.

Passenger Wilfred McCrorie, from Castle Kennedy, was also injured.

Shingleston, of Craiglea Avenue, Stranraer will be sentenced on March 22.
