The Highways Agency pinch point scheme near Wakefield is in the final few weeks of work. When complete, the scheme will cut congestion and improve journeys for drivers.

Highways Agency Project Manager, David Pilsworth, said: “Drivers will soon benefit from the improvements being made on the M1 at 41 junction near Wakefield. The closures are critical for surfacing work to take place. We are carrying out the work at night in order to minimize any disruption to drivers and during the work clearly signed diversion routes will be in place.”

Work will take place for two weeks starting November 10 on Monday to Thursday evenings only, from 8pm-6am. During the work the exit slip roads on the north and southbound carriageway will be closed. In addition, the southbound entry slip road will close during the first week of work and northbound entry slip road will close for the second week of work. There will also be lanes closed on the A650 with temporary traffic lights in place.

During the closures clearly signed diversions will be in place, and the M1 northbound and southbound traffic in the vicinity of the junction will not be affected.

Work on the £4m, M1 junction 41 scheme began in April and will be completed in January. The scheme will have a positive impact on drivers using this important junction, helping to reduce congestion and improve journey times. The scheme involves:

Widening the A650 northbound and southbound approaches to three lanes.

Widening both slip roads to three lanes.
