Dewsbury Minster warden Richard Middleton said: “I helped to do an auction for a Scout group in Dewsbury in the 1980s, and we thought it would be something a bit different to raise funds.

“When I embarked upon it, I thought we would have a lot of items donated that might not be suitable for auction like CDs, DVDS and videos. Because we’ve had a lot more suitable items donated, we’ve taken those kind of things out and we’ll have a stall outside church one Saturday when the weather gets better.”

All items to be auctioned will be available to view at the Minster in Rishworth Road on Thursday, 7pm-9pm.

The auction will take place next Friday from 7pm.

Proceeds will go to the team parish, which includes the Minster, Trinity Church in Batley Carr, St John’s in Dewsbury Moor and St Peter’s in Earlsheaton.

Mr Middleton added: “It will help keep the churches going and help the local community through our work with the poor and needy in particular.”
