Andy Smith, the festival’s head booker and promoter, said: “Live At Leeds is a great platform for emerging talent, if you take the time to go and seek out some of the artists you’ve never heard of before on our line-up you may well just find the next big thing.

“I looked at the 2013 line-up the other day, a little known Sam Smith was listed down in the bottom tier and played Holy Trinity Church at 4pm, just after George Ezra and Nick Mulvey performed on the same bill.”

More than 200 acts will perform on 20 different stages at more than a dozen venues across the city.

Fans can buy a wristband for £27.50, which will give them access to as many gigs as they want on the festival’s Saturday.

Mr Smith added: “It’s great for the region to be able to bring all these bands together.”

The remainder of the event’s line-up will announced in the next few weeks.

The festival won the Best Metropolitan Festival award at the UK Fesitval Awards in London, in December 2014.

Acts who performed in previous years include Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran, The Maccabees, Hurts, Alt J and Jake Bugg grace and last year Royal Blood, Catfish and the Bottlemen and George Ezra were on stage at the event in the city.

It is organised by promotions company Futuresound Events Ltd and it is sponsored by Heineken, Blacks Solicitors, Trinity Leeds, Leeds Beckett University and Leeds City Council.
