Litter pickers show every little helps

A Tesco store manager and her team have shown that every little helps by holding a series of litter picks.

Cleckheaton Tesco manager, Clare Findlay decided to do something about the litter in the area after noticing the problem when she was pounding the streets in training for this year’s Race For Life.

Clare and Melanie Cropper, the community champion at the store in Northgate, arranged for 20 of their colleagues to join in a litter pick at three of Cleckheaton’s main green spaces.

Armed with rubbish bags, the team of modern-day Wombles set about cleaning up Greenway, Memorial Park and Moor End on Sunday, June 26.

The spruce up was followed by a well-deserved barbeque and drinks for all those who took part.

Clare Findlay said: “Tesco is a big part of the local community and when Melanie and I saw the litter in the parks, we felt it was something we could help to sort out.

“I’m really grateful to all those who came down to lend a hand and hope we were able to reward them with the party afterwards.”

Clare and Melanie are back in training for the Tesco-backed Race For Life arranged by Cancer Research which takes place on Sunday, July 10.
