Life’s a beach at Dewsbury by the Sea
People of all ages and abilities can work with professional artists at drop-in workshops to produce stories and adventures for the five themed huts.
They will go on display in Dewsbury town centre on Saturday, August 29 and will tell the stories of local people, journeys, belonging, travel and community.

Hide AdThe Life’s a Beach Hut workshops are being run between Creative Scene and Chol Theatre.
Ruth Bridges, project manager for Creative Scene, said: “This is a really fun project that gives everyone the opportunity to be part of Dewsbury on Sea in 2015.
“The more people that take part, the better the beach huts will be.
“We welcome everyone, even if you have no experience or can only spare five minutes.”

Hide AdChol Theatre is a community theatre company based in Huddersfield, with a track record of involving communities in creating quality arts experiences in the places where they live and work.
Vicky Sawka, Life’s a Beach Hut director for Chol Theatre, said: “Life’s a Beach Hut will be an interactive storytelling experience; devised and performed by members of the community.
“The workshops will give people the chance to build a beach hut, sew a fish, paint the set and imagine, tell and perform stories. We can’t wait to get going.”
Workshops will take place at Connect Housing Community Space on Bond Street in Dewsbury today between 12pm and 7pm and on Saturday between 10am and 5pm.

Hide AdThere will also be workshops on Wednesday, August 26 between 10am and 5pm and on Thursday, August 27 between 12pm and 7pm.
Helen Lennon, director of neighbourhoods and communications for Connect Housing, said: “Having just bought our new offices and community space at Bond Street, we couldn’t wait to start activities.
“We are so excited to be part of this and look forward to many more collaborations in the future that benefit the people of Kirklees.”
