BOXER Gary Sykes took on a hair-raising challenge at a Children in Need fundraiser.

The former British Super Featherweight title holder, from Dewsbury Moor, had his legs waxed at the event at the Thirsty Man pub in Mirfield.

Other special guests were Ash Lindsay and Johnny Campbell from Batley Bulldogs, Mark Barlow from Dewsbury Rams, Lee Gilmour and Keith Mason of Huddersfield Giants, and Halifax player Joseph Chandler.

Orgainser beauty therapist Kelly Marsden said: “We raised around £400 on the day and when the lads have collected all their sponsorship we hope to be looking at £1,000.”

Inspired by their example, several other people paid to have undergo a waxing.

More than 200 people visited throughout the event, which also included sponsored head shaves, face painting and a cupcake stand.
