Late rally propels Hudson to victory

MIRFIELD Parish bowler Peter Hudson defeated last year’s champion David Wilmot in the final of the Geoff and Joan Mellor Trophy at Royds Park.

Hudson held his nerve in front of a record crowd to see-off the challenge of his team-mate, favouring the shorter marks over Wilmot’s play into the long corners.

The scores remained locked at 11-11 before Wilmot went 14-13 up and appeared to be on the road to victory with two close bowls on a difficult, long mark.
