Paula Sherriff has been selected by local Labour members as parliamentary candidate for Dewsbury.
The 38-year-old healthcare professional was selected at a hustings in the constituency yesterday afternoon.
Paula, whose father served in the Royal Navy, worked in the Police Force in victim support for 10 years before moving into the NHS in the early 2000s. She’s worked in healthcare for the last decade, currently working in dermatology.
Speaking after being selected, Paula said: “I’m hugely proud to have been selected as Labour’s candidate for Dewsbury. Our fantastic constituency has been neglected for the last three-and-a-half years.
“People across our area deserve better. So my hard work to win the trust and support of voters here will begin straight away.
“People here are suffering from a cost of living crisis which David Cameron refuses to even attempt to tackle.
“Locals back Ed Miliband’s promise for an energy price freeze, a cut to business rates to help local businesses, and a tax rebate for businesses of up to £1,000 for every worker whose pay they uprate to the living wage – practical measures putting more money in Dewsbury families’ pockets and helping our local economy.
“Most of all, people here want a fulltime MP who will dedicate all their time to standing up for them, and I promise if I’m elected as MP for Dewsbury at the next election it will be my only job.”
